One of the questions we’re asked quite often is:
What’s the difference between a podcast and videography?
On the surface, they can seem similar , especially now that many podcasts are filmed. But they each serve a slightly different purpose. A podcast is centred around the conversation.
It’s about ideas, discussion and voice. It gives you the space to speak in more depth, explain your thinking and connect with people in a more natural, considered way. Most podcasts are primarily audio, designed to be listened to while someone is walking, driving or working.
Videography, on the other hand, is about what people see.
It focuses on visual storytelling; how something looks, how it’s framed and how it feels. It’s often used for shorter-form content, brand storytelling or promotional material where the visual element carries just as much meaning as the words.
Where it becomes more interesting is when the two come together.
A single recording session can give you far more than one piece of content. A full podcast episode as well as a filmed version for video platforms, and shorter clips to use across social media. The same conversation can be shaped and shared in different ways, depending on where your audience is.
At Luminary, this is exactly what we focus on.
We offer both podcasting and videography, so you don’t have to choose between them.
It’s not about deciding on one format.
It’s about using both to communicate clearly, share ideas and build connections over time.
If you’ve been thinking about starting a podcast or creating content, you’re very welcome to come and see the studio or talk things through.
