Every year, Photo London brings the best international photography to the capital. The Photo London Fair highlights new directions in photography while showcasing the best historical and vintage pieces.
The founders of Photo London, Michael Benson and Fariba Farshad, are excited about the fair’s development under Kamiar Maleki’s direction and anticipate a very strong ninth edition with a truly international lineup of top galleries and an exceptional public programme that highlights the history, culture, and future of photography in all its glory.
Let’s look at what we can expect from The Photo London Fair 2024.
Discovery Area
Photo London’s Discovery area features the most interesting up-and-coming galleries and artists, in addition to a selection of the top galleries and dealers in the world of photography. Once again, this looks to be a stand-out year. Every edition also features an exclusive public programme with special installations and exhibitions and the announcement of multiple awards, the most notable of which is the Photo London Master of Photography Award. Curated by writer and critic Charlotte Jansen, Discovery showcases innovative new artists, including Deák Erika Galéria (Budapest) and Palm* Studios (London).
Valérie Belin
Valérie Belin, the ninth recipient of the Master of Photography Award, is showcasing a solo exhibition as part of the 2024 programme. Valérie is a renowned photographer from France, and her work explores the conflict between the artificial and the actual world. She has photographed live models and mannequins, masks and card sharks, dancers and bodybuilders, questioning the creation and fetishisation of conventional beauty standards and persistent gender norms.
Fotografía Maroma
After making its debut at the Fair in 2023, Fotografía Maroma, an exhibition of modern Mexican photography co-curated by Fariba Farshad, returns to Photo London’s Presenting Partner Belmond. The “Belmond Legends” series, which included performers such as Durimel, Coco Capitán, Jack Davison, Jeano Edwards, Letizia Le Fur, François Halard, Rosie Marks, Chris Rhodes, and Thomas Rousset, will be expanded upon in their 2024 presentation.
The Deutsche Börse Photography Foundation
The Deutsche Börse Photography Foundation, which owns one of the most prestigious international collections of contemporary photography with more than 2,300 works by 160 artists from 35 countries, will host a third exhibition to commemorate the collection’s 25 years. “See/Change — Art Collection Deutsche Börse @25” features contemporary artistic viewpoints and recent acquisitions focusing on the human condition. It was organised by Anne-Marie Beckmann, Director of the Deutsche Börse Photography Foundation, and Renée Mussai, an independent curator and scholar based in London.
